Human Sanity In Long Term Space Flight And Virtual Reality Strategies

In the future there is no doubt that humans will travel outside of our solar system and visit a new worlds and discover interesting things. In doing this they will most likely be in an artificial environment or spaceship. Unfortunately this might cause psychological issues and whereas some people might be able to handle it by watching movies, reading and studying all the information inside the computer’s data banks; for others it could be a literal living hell.

This is why for human sanity in long-term space flight it makes sense to consider virtual reality strategies. For instance consider a dome shaped device, which would actually be a flat-panel display, which would have scenery projected on it of various places on earth.

The humans involved in this space flight may have never experienced Earth and maybe three or four generations having lived in space and traveling. Nevertheless, with proper virtual-reality technologies such as scents, warmth, sounds and an immersed virtual-reality visualization it would be nearly the same and it would be quite pleasing to them.

It should be noted, that long-term space flight with our current technology may cause people to go insane and this is why we need to consider different solutions, which would provide the proper visual stimulus and scenarios to keep our space travelers of healthy minds.

What sort of footage could be played? Well, how about a hike in the woods, a jog through Central Park or a walk on the beach? Those would certainly be good. Of course they can also have action adventures such as riding in the Tour de France, riding on a jet ski, snorkeling on the coral reef or flying in a light airplane. Perhaps you might consider all this in 2006.
